One of the best active channels that feature wrestling from the golden period of backyard wrestling, is "Backyard Wrestling Central." If you were alive during the late 90's, it would have been impossible to ignore the crazy antics coming from Southern Californian backyards. With the prevalence of big media in Los Angeles, many of these companies were able to be predominately featured on television segments, talk shows, and news articles.
Probably the most well known of all backyard wrestling groups were the kids who are featured on the Backyard Wrestling Central. From Mr. Fantastic to Andre Verdun, from Scorpio Sky to Tommy Malice, these young wrestlers were cover stars of numerous films including most of the Best of Backyard Wrestling films. Companies such as CBW, EEW, RWF, UEW, and SCWA became underground sensations on the Internet and their tapes were sought after from people around the world.
Primarily these backyard wrestling groups were known for their hardcore wrestling. While other groups such as HIW (Arizona) or BWA (Kentucky) are attributed much credit to the rise in popularity of shock style backyard wrestling, much of the credit also goes to these southern Californian groups. Barbed-wire, glass, fire and thumb-tacks and so much more were used regularly in these wild, amateur backyard bouts.
Backyard Wrestling Central has set the standard for some time with regards to old school backyard wrestling YouTube channels. High-definition digitization of VHS tapes, highlight clips and full length compilations have provided their fans with quality entertainment for years now. Several documentary style videos have been released as well, bordering on relative professionalism in it's production.
Whether you like hardcore wrestling or not, no one can deny the influence and reach the companies featured on Backyard Wrestling Central were able to attain. Few groups have, or will ever again, be able to repeat this sort of underground popularity or notoriety.
