Last month the great folks at Game Changer Wrestling held their inaugural Deathmatch Hall of Fame ceremony. An old online friend of mine, J.C. Bailey became the first inductee into this prestigious, underground Hall of Fame. He was inducted by his hero, Mad Man Pondo in front of a packed house and many friends and fans watching the livestream. As many of you know J.C. Bailey passed away in August of 2010 following a series of deathmatches and battling drug addiction.
J.C Bailey was one of the faces of the Best of Backyard Wrestling videos. He became a underground backyard wrestling legend through his clips and matches featured on the first several installments of the Best of Backyard Wrestling home videos. J.C. was probably most well known on those videos for the backyard barbed-wire death-matches featuring excessive glass spots and the infamous weed-whacker spot.
J.C. was a legend in the backyard wrestling scene before he became a legend in the professional wrestling scene. I would argue that he was born to be a wrestling legend. J.C.'s father ran Bad 2 Tha Bone wrestling, and as the son of a promoter many people are destined to be a superstar. J.C. loved wrestling and sought out every backyard wrestling group in the Kentucky area he could find. J.C. belonged to many groups, but his own company, BWA stood out in a sea of amateurs. It is my hope that one day the BWA footage will be digitized and made publicly available for the world to see. Thanks to the fine folks at "Backyards of KY" YouTube channel we do have some footage of J.C. on the Internet
Check out the GCW event for J.C's Hall of Fame induction.
