Ryan at the YouTube channel, Indy Wrestling School, has been busy during the pandemic for the world of backyard wrestling. After dropping two documentaries detailing the rise of his backyard wrestling feds Brockwood 4 Wrestling (BFW) and Budget Wrestling League (BWL) he has blessed the Internet with season one of a his new show, Backyard Wrestling Cinema.
Before creating a successful independent wrestling company called World-1, Ryan and his friends were apart of the backyard wrestling craze of the 1990's. Backyard Wrestling Cinema centers on how Ryan and his neighborhood friends turned a small backyard wrestling group who wrestled on the "horseshoe" of their cul-de-sac into a professional wrestling company.
Backyard Wrestling Cinema is host, Ryan Kavanaugh's personal retrospective account of the detailed history of his days in the backyard. Season one starts off with a look into the initial beginnings of the group, as they worked out the rough edges and experienced company name changes and character developments. From the early footage it is clear that the group of friends had a knack for storytelling and humorous segments. While some backyard feds of the day relied on over-the-top violence or technical wrestling in a slick looking ring, Ryan and his friends of HWF concentrated on producing entertaining vignettes as a staple for their backyard events.
Backyard Wrestling Cinema is a light-hearted account of the ups and downs of running a teenage backyard wrestling group in the early 2000's. From technical challenges to the struggles associated with maintaining an active roster, Backyard Wrestling Cinema is highly relatable for any backyard wrestler, past or present. Host Kavanaugh has a knack for engaging storytelling and clever foreshadowing. Combined with slick editing and dramatic aerial video shots, Kavanaugh is able to set the scene properly for the audience as he invites them into his world of backyard wrestling.
